The Central government on Saturday cleared the appointment of Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Justice Bhati will take over as the Chief Justice from Justice Sanjeev Kumar who has been serving as acting Chief Justice of the High Court since June 2.
Former Supreme Court Justice Krishna Murari has been appointed as a member of Vantara's independent governing council to oversee conservation, rescue and compliance work. Vantara is a Reliance Industries-backed animal rescue centre in Gujarat's Jamnagar. Justice Murari retired from the Supreme Court in July 2023.
The Punjab cabinet passed a resolution against the Central government decision to notify the appointment of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The State government alleged that the decision was taken without its consent and violated prescribed procedures.
